Know it’s the right system before you click “buy”
Buying HVAC equipment online can save you thousands, as long as you buy the right equipment. Send us what you’re considering and a licensed technician will review it for free.

Why approval matters
The biggest risk of buying your own HVAC equipment isn’t the install. It’s buying the wrong thing. An oversized air conditioner short-cycles, wastes energy and leaves your home clammy. A mismatched coil can cost you efficiency, comfort and even warranty coverage. And some brands limit warranties on equipment sold online.
Our free approval catches these problems before you spend money, while it’s still easy to change your order.
What we check
- Correct sizing (tonnage / BTUs) based on your square footage, layout, insulation, windows and our Greater Houston climate, not a rule of thumb.
- Matched system: outdoor and indoor units that are AHRI-certified together, so you actually get the efficiency rating you’re paying for.
- Efficiency & code compliance: meets current DOE SEER2 / HSPF2 regional minimums and uses an approved refrigerant.
- Fit & compatibility: physical dimensions for your attic, closet or pad, your electrical circuit, ductwork, gas supply and thermostat.
- Warranty terms: what the manufacturer and retailer require for homeowner-purchased equipment, and how to register it.
- Value: whether a different model or retailer would give you a better system for the same money.
What you get back
Usually within one business day, you’ll receive:
- A clear approved / not recommended answer for each option, with plain-English reasons.
- Suggestions if there’s a better fit, including a good / better / best option if you asked for recommendations.
- A list of anything else to add to your cart (heat kit, TXV, thermostat, etc.).
- A flat-rate written install quote so you know your full project cost before you buy.
Already bought your equipment?
Send it anyway. We’ll confirm it works for your home, and if it doesn’t, we’ll help you figure out the easiest exchange before install day.
How to submit your equipment
Use our approval form to paste product links or model numbers. Include photos of your current system’s data plates if you can. Not sure where to shop? Start with our suggested retailers.
Equipment approval FAQs
Is equipment approval really free?
Yes. Reviewing your equipment and providing an install quote is free and there’s no obligation. If a full replacement requires an on-site visit to measure and inspect, we’ll let you know up front.
Do I have to buy from a specific retailer?
No. Buy from any reputable retailer. We just want to see the exact model numbers before you order. Our where to buy page lists some good places to start.
Can you just tell me what to buy?
Absolutely. Select “I want recommendations” on the form and we’ll suggest a few properly sized systems at different price points from retailers that sell to homeowners.
Found a system you like? Let’s make sure it’s the right one.
Send us the link before you buy. A licensed tech will confirm sizing, compatibility and warranty terms, then give you a flat-rate written install quote. Free, no obligation.
