Why heat pumps make sense in Greater Houston

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can also run in reverse, moving heat into your home in winter. With our mild winters, a modern heat pump can handle nearly all of your heating at a fraction of the cost of electric resistance heat, and many homeowners pair one with a backup heat kit or gas furnace for the occasional hard freeze.

  • One outdoor unit for both heating and cooling
  • Much lower heating costs than electric strip heat
  • Inverter / variable-speed models for quieter, more even comfort and better humidity control
  • May qualify for federal tax credits and utility rebates (efficiency requirements apply)

Heat pump setups we install

  • Heat pump + air handler with an electric heat kit for backup (the most common all-electric setup)
  • Dual fuel / hybrid: heat pump + gas furnace, automatically switching to gas in very cold weather
  • Heat pump replacing an AC: converting your existing AC to a heat pump for more efficient heating
  • Ductless heat pumps: see our mini-split installation page

What’s included

Every heat pump install includes everything in our standard AC installation (permit, pad, disconnect, nitrogen brazing, pressure test, deep vacuum, charge verification), plus:

  • Heat pump thermostat wiring and configuration (O/B reversing valve, aux/emergency heat staging)
  • Heat kit installation and breaker sizing verification
  • Defrost operation and balance point setup for dual-fuel systems
  • Testing in both heating and cooling modes before we leave

Tax credits & rebates

Qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps may be eligible for federal tax credits and local utility rebates. Requirements change, so check current program rules before you buy. During approval we’ll flag whether the model you picked is likely to meet the efficiency tier, and we provide the install documentation you’ll need.

Heat pump FAQs

Will a heat pump keep my house warm in a freeze?

Modern heat pumps work well into the 20s°F and below, and every system we install has backup heat (a heat kit or gas furnace) for extreme cold snaps. We size and configure the backup so you stay comfortable.

Can I switch from AC + gas furnace to a heat pump?

Yes. Many homeowners keep the gas furnace and add a heat pump as a dual-fuel system, or go all-electric with an air handler. We’ll walk through the pros, cons and operating costs during approval.

Is a heat pump more expensive to install than an AC?

Install labor is very similar. There’s some additional thermostat and heat kit work, which is included in your flat-rate quote.
